Lyndhurst is located in the heart
of the New Forest, in the South of England.
The site itself sits in 65 acres on the outskirts of the town.
Map of the area:
Foxlease is accessed in the
following ways:
By train:
From London Waterloo – trains to Brockenhurst – journey
approximately 1hr 40mins. Brockenhurst
is 4 miles from Lyndhurst so the onward journey to site would be by collection
or taxi. For routes not including London
– always plan for destination Brockenhurst.
By National Express Coaches:
Coaches depart from Victoria Central Coach station in London – to
Lyndhurst. Collections are possible for
those travelling in this manner. There
is a local bus service that operates down the road at the entrance to the site,
but it is apparently infrequent.
By road:
Foxlease is signposted, but there will be further SCA signs to guide
those coming by car. The site is:
-
89.5 miles
from London
-
3 hours
drive from Dover Ferry Port
-
1hr 20mins
from Heathrow airport
-
2 hours drive
from Gatwick airport
-
2hrs
30mins from Stansted airport
-
30mins
from Southampton Airport
By air:
The closest airport is Southampton, but it is not a big one. The best airports to fly into is to one of
the London airports and arrange forward travel either by train or road (through
hired vehicles or pre-arranged collection by local/passing SCAdians).
Please bear in mind that for
collections beyond a certain distance, a small charge may apply, to cover fuel
costs.
Foxlease is a girl guides
activity centre sitting in 65 acres of land.
The site consists of 3 separate buildings: The Coach House, The Barn and
Princess Margaret Lodge. All buildings
have their own bunk bedrooms, crash space Rooms, toilets and showers. The SCA has exclusive use of this site and
there will be no other groups on the estate.
The site is wet and allows naked
flames. There will be a designated area
outside for smokers, please respect this, as by UK law smoking is not allowed
indoors. No pets are allowed on site.
The site has got an Archery
field, should there be a call for this activity during the event.
Off-Site Accommodation and facilities:
Lyndhurst is a well-known beauty spot and is on the tourist trail of the
South of England and the New Forest area.
As such it has an abundance of B&Bs and Hotels that cluster closely
to the location of the event site. There
are various websites that list these accommodations. Unfortunately there appear to be no Hostels
within easy distance of the site.
The town’s High Street is approximately 500m from the event site and
includes food shops, pharmacies and Banks with ATM machines. There are also a varied number of
restaurants, cafes and fast food outlets on the High Street. Please see the
virtual high street diagram below.
The nearest large General Hospital is 8 miles away in Southampton,
although there is a community hospital 10 minutes from site in Lymington, which
has a minor injuries unit.
While Lyndhurst does not have its
own gas station – there is one in Brockenhurst (4 miles away) on the A337 South
of the site, and another equidistant on the A337 North of the site.

We are happy to announce that
there will be several Medieval Traders setting up stalls in the main Hall
during the Saturday of the event. Some
are SCA members, and some are not, but I would encourage people to bring your
pouches of coinage when viewing the fine wares these gentles have to offer.
Traders:
Kate Phillips Pottery
Kate has traded her pottery wares
many times at SCA events and is willing to take commissions, and bespoke orders
(including items decorated with personal heraldry).
Baroness Ursula Starlasdottir
Baroness Ursula has served twice
as Vicereine of Insulae Draconis and is often to be found behind her market
table, selling handmade jewellery and buttons amongst other things. She is also known for her delightful
Viking-weave chains.
